NVQ Diplomas

What are the entry requirements? Whilst there are no prior entry requirements in terms of knowledge and understanding of underpinning principles in your subject area, the requirements of your role and work function will need to be demonstrated. You will have worked in your role for at least 6 months.  You will have completed your probationary period and relevant induction. You must be working consistently in a role that reflects the evidence requirements for the qualification.

How will I be supported? Sector specific workshops (if applicable), Allocation of Assessor and Internal Verifier, Supported by OCR approved assessment.

What is my commitment? To complete my award within agreed timeframes,  normally 9 months of registration, to study in my own time (minimum 2 hours per week), in addition to any negotiated time allocated to you within the workplace, to attend induction and workshops as required.

How do I apply? Start dates are available all year round. You will have discussed this qualification with your employer / line manager and may have identified it as a part of your learning and development pathway.  You will have both agreed and recorded how you will be supported in the workplace.

 NVQ Advice and Guidance Certificate Level 3

Who is this for? The level 3 certificate is designed to reflect the activities and responsibilities of candidates who are advice and guidance practitioners that work directly with clients, disseminating information, advice and some level of guidance. You will be working with information that is often interpreted by others, usually working within some clear guidelines. 

What’s involved? For the full level 3 certificate, you will need to achieve a total of 21 credits made up of 4 mandatory units totalling 12 credits and 3 optional units totalling 9 credits. Full unit details can be found here.

NVQ Advice and Guidance Diploma Level 4

Who is this for? This level 4 diploma is for candidates who have managerial or training responsibility within the organisation. You will be responsible for creating information and providing advice and guidance within the service.  You will have an active role in liaising with other services at a managerial level.

What’s involved? For the full level 4 diploma learners will need to achieve a total of 37 credits comprising of 5 mandatory units totalling 17 credits and 20 credits from the optional units, of which 9 must be at level 4. Full unit details can be found here.

NVQ Business Skills Award & Certificate Level 1

Who is this for? The Business Skills level 1 qualification is suitable for those who work with support and supervision. It provides a basic introduction to the requirements of the workplace in the context of a varied of business environment.

What’s involved? To achieve the level 1 award, you must achieve a total of 8 credits. At least 2 credits must be from mandatory Group A, with the remaining 6 credits can be from any of the remaining groups. The level 1 certificate consists of a total of 18 credits; at least 4 credits must be from Group A1 and at least 4 credits must be from Group A2. NVQ Business Skills Award, Certificate & Diploma Level 2

Who is this for? The level 2 qualifications in Business Skills provide an introduction to the requirements of the workplace in the business environment. It provides you with a choice of introductory and more challenging units from the following key business-related areas: Business and Administration, Customer Service, Team Leader/Management, Human Resources or Bookkeeping and Accounting.

What’s involved? To gain the award, candidates need to achieve a total of 10 credits with at least 3 credits from mandatory Group A and the remaining 7 credits can be chosen from any of the optional groups. The level 2 certificate consists of 25 credits, 5 credits must be from Group A1 and at least 5 credits must be from Group A2. The remaining 15 credits can be from any of the optional groups. To achieve the diploma at level 3, candidates need to achieve a total of 37 credits. At least 5 credits must be from Group A1 and at least 5 credits must be from Group A2. NVQ Business Skills Award, Certificate & Diploma Level 3

Who is this for? The level 3 qualifications are for learners who already have experience of office-based skills and who may want to demonstrate evidence of first line managerial abilities.

What’s involved? For the level 3 award, candidates will need to achieve a total of 12 credits. At least 4 credits must be from Group A with the remaining 8 credits can be from any of the groups. The level 3 certificate consists of 28 credits of which 18 must be at Level 3. At least 6 credits must be from Group A1 and at least 6 credits must be from Group A2.  NVQ Customer Service Certificate Level 2

Who is this for? The level 2 diploma is designed to reflect the competencies of staff who are engaged in all aspects of customer service to either internal or external customers. You may be working in the following settings, small businesses, information desks, reception or the hospitality sector including the NHS.

What’s involved? To achieve this level 2 qualification, you need to achieve a total of 28 credits, 8 of which are mandatory and the remaining 20 from specialist groups. Click here for level 2 units.

NVQ Customer Service Diploma Level 3

Who is this for? The level 3 diploma is designed to reflect the competencies of staff that have the scope to bring about permanent improvements to service delivery which will benefit customers and the organisation for which they work. You do not need to have direct line management responsibility to complete this qualification.

What’s involved? To achieve the level 3 diploma you will need to achieve a total of 42 credits, 12 of which are mandatory units and the remaining 30 credits can be selected from 4 optional groups. Full details of the level 3 units can be found here.

NVQ Health and Social Care Diploma Level 2

Who is this for? The level 2 diploma in Health and Social Care is aimed at people currently working in the sector possibly as a Care Assistant, Support Worker or other supportive roles in a range of settings including residential, community, day services or supported living environments. The focus of the level 2 diploma is on person centred care, direct care of patients as well as maintaining an individual’s independence.

What’s involved?  You will need to achieve a total of 46 credits to achieve the full level 2 diploma, 24 of which will come from 9 mandatory units, with the remaining 22 coming from 2 optional groups. Full unit details can be found here. NVQ Health and Social Care Diploma Level 3

Who is this for? The level 3 diploma qualification is aimed at those who are already working in health and social care settings and provide an opportunity to have your knowledge and skills recognised through the achievement of a nationally accredited qualification. The diploma is aimed at Senior Carers or Support Workers in a supervisory role, often without direct supervision.  You will have a degree of responsibility and autonomy and will be required to make decisions within boundaries and limits agreed.  This qualification focuses on person centred care, safeguarding of vulnerable adults and providing specialist support to individuals.

What’s involved? For the full level 3 diploma learners will need to achieve a total of 58 credits, 28 of which will come from 9 mandatory units and the remaining credits are obtained from 2 optional groups. PTLLS – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Who is this for? This qualification is for anyone wishing to teach or train adults their own vocational skills, this could be anything from guitar to cake decorating and is the nationally recognised Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) certificate. It covers the basics of teaching in continuing and adult education including, how to plan sessions, motivate learners and use a variety of assessment methods.  

What’s involved? BHP Training offer two different models of PTLLS, an 8 week intensive course and a 10 week distance learning course (which comprises of 4 taught session and 6 distance learning modules).  In order to qualify to complete distance learning you should have at least 2 years teaching experience of your subject including small group’s and one to one sessions.
